This a painting of bathers on the shore of the Cold River along the Mohawk Trail in western Massachusetts.

I was looking to paint the effect of sunlight on water, creating a feeling of transparency. I photographed the scene as reference and focused on the contrast of the warm sunlit areas versus the cooler sections in shadow.

I debated for quite a while whether or not to keep the figures in the picture. In the end I think they provide a sense of scale and add to the mood of the piece.
