Speed Painting at the 2016 Hartford Marathon

Date: October 8, 2016
Medium: Acrylic
Size: 22" x 28"

This painting was completed in 6 hours at Bushnell Park in Hartford during the running of the marathon. Sponsored by PaintCare, I painted in their booth from 7:00 am until 1:00 pm raceday.

It was challenging to say the least! I haven't painted this fast since art school...

.

Setting up at dawn, I brought a light just in case.
Fresh tubes of acrylic and some new brushes.
I whipped through the base drawing in about a half hour, I had researched and established my design at home two weeks ago.
I used arcylic house paint in the sky, the type the sponsor PaintCare recycles.
The rising sun was warming things up as I worked on the clouds.
I've painted in public before, but to be honest I was so focused on the task at hand I didn't always notice people watching.
3 plus hours in, with a lot to do.
People who stopped by were very encouraging .
The final and most important figure was the female runner. I was tiring at this point, but made an effort to still focus on the details.
In the home stretch.
Finished and exhausted!
